Price charts
When you view an investment on Hatch, you’ll see a snapshot of the latest price at the top of the page, while the chart beneath allows you to see how that price has changed over different timeframes.
Chart colour shows if the price increased (green) or decreased (red) over the timeframe you're viewing
At the top, see current price, plus both $ and % change over the timeframe you're viewing
You can toggle the timeframe view above the chart
The current price is real-time data refreshed each time you load the page, but the charts are 15 minutes behind
On the left, larger screen widths show a price legend
Touch the chart to see the price for each data interval
Timeframes & Intervals
Selecting a timeframe controls how far back the chart goes, and sets the range used to calculate the price change shown at the top of the page. Changing the timeframe may also change the interval between each datapoint on the chart.
These are our timeframe options for market info charts:
For 1 day and 5 day timeframes, the change is calculated by looking at the difference between the latest price and the close price on the trading day immediately prior to the beginning of the chart. For longer timeframes the calculation is the difference between the latest price and the first day shown on the chart.
Additional chart features
You can change your chart view settings at the top left of the investment chart to hide or show candles or volume bars on investment charts.
Here’s an example:
On the left, your chart settings toggle candle and volume display
Candlesticks on the chart show price change during each interval
Volume bars at the bottom show the number of shares traded in each interval
Touch the chart to see Open, High, Low, & Close prices and Volume for each interval
How do I read candles/candlesticks?
Standard price charts only show the last trade price for a given interval (e.g. the price at the close of each day or hour), whereas candlesticks let you see how the price moved during the interval.
The interval each candle represents varies depending on which timeframe you select for the chart - e.g. our 1D charts show candles for each 5 minute interval
The solid bar shows the gap between the open price and close price
The colour shows the direction of price movement
Green means the close price was higher than the open price - the price went up during the interval
Red means the close price was lower than the open price - the price went down during the interval
The lines that extend above/below the solid bar (called wicks/shadows) reach to the highest and lowest price during the interval
What is trading volume?
Trading volume = total number of shares traded on the market during each interval
For example, if 1,000 trades occur over a day, and each trade involves 5 shares, the total trading volume for the day would be 5,000 shares
