I’ve lost my phone! How do I sign in?

You can use your recovery 2FA method, or your previously saved backup codes.

We recommend you set up a second 2FA method which does not rely on your phone (e.g. generate codes using a password manager shared across devices) as a recovery option to use whenever your default method is inaccessible. Alternatively, you can use a backup code to log into Hatch.

Hopefully when you first setup 2FA you saved your backup codes somewhere you can find them. After entering your email and password, on the page you would usually use your 2FA code, click “Use your recovery method” to use one of your backup codes to log in.

Once you’re logged in, if you have an alternate phone or other device to receive codes on, you should change your default 2FA method and reset/delete your old default method as soon as possible. You may need to use another backup code to complete this. Make sure to store any remaining backup codes in a secure location, such as a password manager, and avoid sharing them with others.

Best practices for managing back-up codes

  • Save your back-up codes in a safe, accessible location (e.g., password manager or securely stored document).

  • Do not share your emergency codes with anyone.

  • Periodically confirm access to your emergency codes to avoid complications.

  • Each back-up code can only be used once, generate a new set from your 2FA settings page when you’re running low!
