We recommend setting up 2FA on your phone like this, using an authenticator app or your phone number. If you only have one device handy, here’s how to set up an authenticator or equivalent password manager for 2FA on the device you’re using.
Follow these steps to use a desktop app or browser extension for Hatch 2FA
Install a password manager or authenticator app/browser extension on your device. If you don’t have one set up, we’ve listed a few of your options below these steps.
In Hatch:
Go to Settings > Two factor authentication and click Start Setup
Select Authenticator app (this works even if you’re not using a typical authenticator app)
You should see a QR code on screen, beneath that click Can't scan? Set up manually
Copy the 32 character code you now see on screen
In your password manager/authenticator:
Click the + or Add New button (the exact wording may vary)
Fill out the account name/label and other details as you like (if you’re using a password manager, add your normal Hatch login details)
Paste or key in your previously copied 32 character code into the secret/setup key/code area (again, the exact wording in your authenticator app may vary)
Click Save
You'll now see the 2FA code generated in your password manager/authenticator, just copy this back into Hatch to complete the setup.
💡 Note: These steps also work for setting up 2FA on a mobile device if you’re not able to scan the QR code.
It’s your choice what you use for 2FA
A password manager is probably easiest long-term, but it may take a little more effort to set up in the first instance than an authenticator. An authenticator is your quickest way to get 2FA set up right now if you’re starting from scratch.
Both options come either as browser extensions, which can be helpful to autofill your login details, or desktop apps, which are simple to install.
Here are a few options for Windows or MacOS

If you’re using a Macbook device (running MacOS 12 (Monterey) or later), then the built-in iCloud Keypass password manager can handily generate and autopopulate 2FA codes.
You can find more options online, including for other operating systems.
💡 Note: As third party products, Hatch can't vouch for any one password manager or authenticator, and it's your personal choice what you use here. Our how-to steps up above should be pretty consistent for setting up whichever option you choose.
